Imitating Art!

This was my second favourite lesson after the character and exaggeration one. In this lesson our lecturer told that it would a good idea to start looking for out own style of drawing. So we were given a hand out that had a lot of different artists work, she told us to draw our model in the style of each of the artists. But there was just one problem, our model hadn't turned up so our lecturer stepped in and did a brilliant job!

These two sketches are favourites from this lesson, because I love the style used, plus I think they're quite funny sketches of my lecturer.

All Together...

I'm going to show you all the drawings from the next two lessons, because these were the two that I didn't have my regular lecturer. Some of these sketches do look dirty, thats because for one of these lessons I decided to use a black pastel. I tried my best not to get an imprint of what I had just drawn onto the next page, but due to my stupidity I'd forgotten to bring some hairspray. I put some on as soon as I got home but unfortunately the damage had already been done!

 The next set of sketches were all done in the same lesson but feel a bit random, mainly because we didn't really stick to drawing one thing. But I am proud of two of these following sketches, the first one of Lucia mainly because it actually looks like her but also because I love drawing women with curves. The other is the sketch of my hand, although it's not 100% perfect, it shows that I've been practising.

Doctor Who: Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS

A spaceship salvage team drags the TARDIS on board, sending its systems into meltdown. As the Doctor marshals the motley salvage crew outside, he realises Clara is still trapped within his malfunctioning ship, pursued by a dangerous group of ossified monsters. He has just 30 minutes to find Clara and save his TARDIS before it self-destructs.

It's So Emotional...

Next up was emotions and once again we didn't have a model. So we took turns as a class to pose for each other. We had to portray an emotion, whilst the rest of us tried to convey that in our sketches. To be honest by the look of these sketches you would assume that most of my classmates are really depressed, but my favourite is my lecturer's WTF pose.

I can see now in my sketches that I still wasn't allowing my pencil to flow freely across the page, but the biggest thing is that I can tell that I have improved a lot since starting uni again way back in September last year!

I'm sorry about this last sketch. You can't really see it because in the next lesson I decided to use a black pastel, but because I'm such a tit I forgot to bring some hairspray. Oh well…

Getting All Handsy!

So this was the lesson I wasn't really looking forward to, but one I really needed to go to. I'd never bothered to draw hands properly before, it always used to be quick squiggles, especially on my own characters. Most of these sketches look horribly inaccurate, but since then I have been drawing hands more and I think I'm slowly getting better.

Also I don't know whats going on with on with the hand in this one (its just weird), but the elbow isn't too bad!

Hey everyone, sorry but I'm going to be bombarding you with posts about my work until Monday. The reason for this is that I need to hand in my sketchbook work through blogger. Sorry I didn't post all of this before, I got distracted by news of Doctor Who, Marvel, Once Upon a Time etc…

Exaggerating and Creating Characters

I really enjoyed this lesson. We didn't have a model so we had to pose for each other, I think this was great because we got to know each other more. I think the best bit was that we could create any character we wanted.

It was during this lesson that Franki suggested that I start using a different colour (blue) to draw with. By doing this I could, at a later date, work over my original sketch in a darker colour (purple).

Once we had our model back, we continued to create characters. We decided she was a doctor with some sort of secret…

Up to this point I had quite literally used random shapes to exaggerate our model's body. Thankfully my lecturer told me to notice the position she was in, take my time and not be too extreme in my exaggeration. I'm glad to say I got the hang of it.

For homework we had to choose our favourite sketch and colour it in using Photoshop. I chose the last sketch I had done in the lesson because it was Tim Burton inspired.

Once I had coloured it in Photoshop, I then stuck it on a suitable background.
