Almost Forgot...

Sorry this is from my first semester at uni. I'd almost completely forgotten about this, its most probably because I'm not very good at it. This was drawing in 3D, basically we had to buy some plasticine and sculpt the shape of our model's body.

Above are some work in progress photos of my plasticine. I didn't get much further I afraid, because I'm not really talented enough. The image below shows the very simple but best version of my plasticine model.

Drawing for Animation with Emily has been my favourite and the one lesson I looked forward to every week. I just hope that in my second year at uni we get to spend more than just two hours drawing!

Emily's One Day Sketchbook Challenge: The Zoo

I along with my friend Franki decided to set ourselves a challenge. Based on the one week sketchbook challenge our lecturer set us a just over a month ago, we made the decision to go to Dudley Zoo and try and fill a small sketchbook in a day. It was a great idea, it just all depended on the weather…

It was going great, managed to fill just over half of the sketchbook and then it started raining cats and dogs, which was weird cause we were in a zoo! Anyway we had a brilliant but wet time at Dudley Zoo and I can't wait till the next sketchbook challenge in May.

Not So Good With Tone

This was a sad day, it was our last drawing class. But we got to spend the day at the park, which was fun. Our final task was simple, get to know tone, yeah not as easy as it sounds. Our lecturer said we must master the tone scale, I thought it would be easy. Here's my attempt…

I decided to do it twice because I wasn't sure if I'd done it right. I had a go at this before and failed and I think I have now too, so I reckon this is another thing I should pay more attention to.

I also had a go at drawing things using just tone, believe it or not the following are a quarter of a tree, a rock and a leafless tree.

A Bit of This and a Bit of That

Our next lesson was once again without our regular lecturer, so it was a bit of a mash up. I think if I remember correctly, we did a bit of weight and gesture with a bit of quick drawing on the side. It really was a weird lesson, plus the fact that everyone talking over each other, which for some reason wasn't getting me into the usual flow of a Monday morning.

Live Storyboarding...

I had a great time in this lesson. Our task was to draw up a storyboard of what was being acted out, once again we had no model so it was passed to my lecturer. With a little help from Lucia and a bag they acted out the scene where Nancy is murdered by Bill in Oliver, we had to move around the room constantly thinking about what kind of shot we would choose. We didn't have much time on each shot, so as you can see my storyboard is not very detailed, but hopefully you still know what's going on.

For homework we had to choose our favourite movie and storyboard a scene from it. I chose Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I really enjoyed this. I only managed to do twelve, but I wish I'd had time to do more.

I've also added a video of the actual scene from the movie so that you can compare it with my storyboard.

I Hate Perspective!

I really struggled with this lesson mainly because a) I couldn't get my head around it and b) I was doing it completely wrong. But I'm glad to say that I kinda began to understand it towards the end of the lesson. To be honest I really need to give this a proper good go before I start complaining.
